Spring Cleaning Tips & Tricks!

March 20^th marks the first day of spring in 2011. Start out the season by giving your child care center a spring cleaning makeover! Start at the entrance and work your way inward. Making a few small, inexpensive changes can drastically change the appearance of your child care center for the better and keep parents happy.

1.     Make the entrance spotless

The front door is the first thing parents see when they walk into your center. Make sure the door is free of fingerprints during peak times of the day. Just before parents arrive to drop off their children and again before they return to pick them up, wipe down glass areas of the door with a streak-free window cleaner.

2.     Refresh the lobby with a pleasant scent

The lobby should smell fresh and clean at all times. Install an air freshener and make sure to refill it or change it every thirty days, or as otherwise recommended. Time-released air fresheners are a popular option and fill the room with a fresh aroma every fifteen minutes. Make sure to choose a subtle scent, as powerful smells are offensive to many individuals. If you always work around an air freshener, you may not realize how strong it is to a person walking through the front door.

3.     Keep all classroom floors clean

Toddlers and infants are constantly crawling and playing on the floor. Adding shoe covers will help your nursery floors stay sanitary. Place a box of shoe covers by the entrance to each room. Before staff or parents enter, have each person place a pair of shoe covers over their shoes. This will prevent dirt from being tracked into the room.  Shoe covers typically come in two sizes-- “unisize” fits men’s shoe sizes up to 10.5 (US), whereas “extra large” covers are made for sizes 10.5 (US) and greater.
